Name: Jacqueline Leung, Age: 22, Occupation: Pianist/Teacher Story: Hong Kong, the famous former British colony has long been known as a melting pot for Eastern and Western cultures and its mixture of old and new. However what I am finding is that the 'old' is rapidly being replaced by the new. Buildings are being knocked down in areas such as Wan Chai, Soho, or the New Territories. These photos show some of the last remaining (and my favourite) fragments of Old Hong Kong still present today, which I hope would be preserved for as long as possible: Snapshots of the fishing village in Tai O, traditional chinese herbal tea shop and woman selling dried orange peel in soho, dai pai dong food stores.... these scenes, in my eyes, are what makes Hong Kong unique, and not the numerous high rise buildings which keep appearing every few months. |
