The composition and focal pt. add intrigue to an otherwise common, ordinary apple blossom photo.... Well done =)

Ah... A plum.... The flowers do look very similar to those of apple trees. I'm used to seeing plum trees with pink blossoms =)

I didn't mean to imply I was challenging the ID.... If that's how my comment came across, I apologize.... There was no implication between the lines -- I truly am used to seeing plum blossoms in pink, but that's 'cause most of the plum trees I've come across in recent years have been ornamental ones like this one and that one =)

Yeah.... The ones labeled as ornamental -- be they peach, plum, cherry, etc. --- don't produce much fruit. They're not completely without since seed production is necessary. My 20ft. ornamental peach, for example, produces 3-5 fruits a year and they never really ripen or get bigger than a walnut.

Ha, guess that this is going to produce several baking sheets of Zwetschgendatschi unless it gets under the weather. Prunus domestica subsp. domestica???
I am not really sure how to tell a Zwetschge from diverse other fruit trees just from the blossoms, tho'. If you know the fruit from last years harvest it's clearly an advantage -- LOL
But it is sure a very a nice picture.
My Prunus cerasus still is only buds, but it also looks much like that once it decides to bloom, and some years it has a good yield of -- sour cherries, of course. ;o)

Oh, also ssp. italica? Ich dachte immer die waeren nicht wirklich empfehlenswert fuer den noerdlichen Alpenrand, aber was ich da gelesen habe ist sicher schon lange von Zuechtern ueberholt worden. Trotzdem, italica ist ein Beiname der irgendwie vermuten laesst das es urspruenglich eher fuer suedlich der Berge taugen soll... da wo sich zum Beispiel Italien befindet. ;o)

wenn ich mir das auf Wiki anschaue, so müsste es die Kirschpflaume sein...(Prunus cerasifera)
