Why was it named for an egyptian goddess as it seems rather modern in style?

'Isis' is the alternative name for the River Thames in Oxford, though why it has the name of an Egyptian goddess, I honestly do not know. This photo is the end of the Oxford Canal, where it joins the Thames. Hence it is known as Thames Lock or Isis Lock. The bridge is late 18th century and built to cross the horses to the towpath on the other side, as the boats were in those days all horse-drawn before they discovered steam.
