Interesting shot! I wonder what is the story behind all this green in green... This seems a pretty narrowboat with cool windows, but it is used for piling wood. The trees where cut down very late, or do they just lie so wet in this lush channel they sprout whilst long cut down?

These logs were cut in February, with this photo taken three months later.

The story is that this was once an oasis of green in the midst of the city - a delightful little path with houseboats moored along an unused arm of the canal - a paradise of trees and quirky overgrown gardens - and a much-loved unofficial tourist sight.

But then the council and waterways officials decided the place was too scruffy and needed tidying up. So they cut down mature trees and wrecked the boaters' gardens, leaving utter desolation behind them. But at least the residents got plenty of wood for their stoves!

I have many photos of the 'before' and 'after'. but haven't uploaded them yet.

The greenery is growing back again, but it's lost the magic of bygone days.
