Multi-Million Dollar Delight
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 337 West 106th St. @ Riverside Dr., Manhattan, NYC, NY. High definition HDR photo… ✎ Designed in 1900 by architect Robert D. Kohn in Beaux Arts style & completed in 1902. Kohn used deep red brick, laid in Flemish bond, with charred ends to provide contrast and an appearance of age. Heavy limestone enframement & quoins rise two stories, engulfing second & third story openings & providing rich contrast to the brick as well as dimensional relief. ✎ The River Mansion has had a storied life, starting as the residence of a wealthy Broadway actress, devolving into a rooming house, then the home of (minor) royalty, back to a rooming house, then as a music school and now restored as a residence. The New York City Landmark (1973) is part of New York’s Riverside Historic District; an enclave of just 30 five-story town houses sharing similar architecture. |
