Really, that is what they look like wild? Less like a gramophone and more like a mallow or somesuch....

Sonja.... I was surprised, too... Needed help ID'ing in fact. Though it is native to the area, I'd never seen the plant before -- or maybe didn't notice it when it wasn't in bloom given that it is perennial.

I can see that they are petunias. Never seen a wild one. I like them and think I prefer them to the cultivated surfinas we all know.
I used to have them a lot in my containers and hanging baskets but one year I just stopped and majored instead on fuchsias and never looked back (Ok, for 10 years or so anyway - now I'm in Madrid where we all live in flats. I miss my garden!!!).
