I'm Hungarian by birth... My grandparents were farmers who lived off the land..... So I was/am familiar with livestock with native origins.... I've never seen one of these Hungarian breed of pigs. So strange looking! Not really practical either -- in terms of raising them for meat -- because there's a lot more work to be done with furry pigs ;)

All that aside.... A neat shot =) Excellent reflections!

Well, Fizgig, they are amongst the most famous old native breeds the show at Lake Neusiedl on the hungarian side in the Fertoed national park show farm... should have shots from a lot of the amimals kept there somewhere online, although I am not sure if I published any of them porkers as they where kept behind tight mesh fence mostly, very muddy and at that smelly like nobody's business..... Frans is lucky he found some sort of presentable ones in an attractive setting.

In 1990 there where only 200 pigs left.
Today there will be 2000 piglets born over the world per year.
You can read more on Wikipedia, but you have to donate 2 euro (lol)

Sonja, vielen Dank für diese Informationen.
Diese Schweine sind überhaupt nicht Interessant Für die Zuchtbetriebe,weil sie Langzaam wachsen, aber ich finde sie so Schön und Niedlich.

Frans, sie sind sicherlich nicht fuer die Menge von billigem Fleisch geeignet, die eine omnivore Befoelkerung der heutigen Dichte verbraucht, wohl aber als Steaks fuer Feinschmecker die angesagtes Nobel-slowfood suchen das sich nicht jeder leisten kann. Kriegst Du auch online...
