This was already a jpg and the only thing I did to it was to save a copy in greyscale.

I am under the impression that the chair has focus now whereas the face is a bit blurry. Is this the case or is it a JPG compression artefact?

I think you may be right. This was just a quick snap of my granddaughter and I am just getting used to the camera. I don't know if this is fixable or not but, I will need to pay more attention to what the camera is focusiing on in the future.
