So, we have been facing our first hurdle with consensus over the design of the landscaping in the back yard at the new house we share with our daughter Padma and her husband Ryan. We all agreed that it is necessary to plan something that saves our water resources, yet Nirtan says she can't be happy without, at least, a little patch of lawn to retreat to. She kind of forced the idea, finding something on the internet that was low maintenance and had low water requirements, and although there was some resistance to it at first, Padma is a good girl. We have always raised her to respect lawn forcement.

Hi Fizgig. The grass in the picture is just growing at the lagoon at Twin Lakes Beach in Santa Cruz. I posted this at several places around the net, including several Facebook groups that require pictures of California as their group focus. I need a picture for my story, and that's on that I had on hand. We are actually moving into Nevada, two miles across the state line off Highway 80 on its way to Reno, about ten minutes farther. Lake Tahoe is about a half-hour up the hill, and we are just at the bottom of the Sierras, twenty minutes from Squaw Valley.The house is at the top end of a new housing tract and has wild Bureau of Land Management low desert just behind its back fence. If we only look out the back windows, we'll forget we're in a housing tract. The house was just completed about two weeks ago. The lot was scraped and graded before the slab was poured. It's hard, bare, and rocky soil, so we are starting anew, and will bring in topsoil to get started with the landscaping. I liked your advice, though. That being said, Ii must admit that even though the story you read was completely factual, it was placed as the setup to a pretty bad shaggy dog story, and I think that fifty or so, people who read it on the net, like you, never realized what they had been hit with. Don't know if that makes my story better or worse!!! Re-read it and remember I love you.

Oh.... Well.... Shoulda posted it on April 1st, then =P I can't be mad at ya, though, after all it WAS unsolicited advice. That's what I get for not keeping my advice to myself ;) Now that I say it....... I think I will =P

Hard, bare, rocky soil..... Should xeriscape it and be done with it. Forget trying to keep a lawn alive in a virtual desert climate =P
