What a cutie! Brewer's Blackbirds are so handsome in the right light.

Thank you for the ID, Sonja. Even though I was taking shot after shot of him, he chose to stay and chat. These birds are pretty used to people, and often hang around parking lots and restaurant patios to help the patrons finish their sandwiches.

Really? Careful in case you got both where you live, if they got the same beautiful shimering coat but are a bit more yellow in the eye and a tad bigger with a proportionally longer tail and beak , those would be Great-tailed Grackles. Usually them grackles are a gregarious bunch, much more tame than new-world blackbirds. It touristic spots one never know what unlikely bird goes tame, however I never met a Brewers Blackbird obliging and unconcearned.
I stil remember my first encounter very well for the memorable place. It was in Cottage Grove Oregon, right below the Opal mural, an Icterid lifer, one might suppose directly from Lil" Oriole's spirit -- however it did not like to be looked at and flew off, before I could get any sharp pic, and I did see a few more that year we did the PNW tour, but never got any sharp pic....

Your comment sent me to the bird books. Your experience with their not being obliging and unconcerned, notwithstanding, I think this was a Brewers Blackbird. I have a way with animals, and most of them are not skittish around me, as I talk to them as friends. It was too small to be a Grackle, I think.

Definitely a Brewer's.... The coloration on the Grackle is kinda opposite -- green-turqouise head, brown-purple body. Much bigger bird, too.
