Creeksong

I always hear the hum. It's pretty loud, and when they pause six inches from my face to say hello, their wings feel like a little fan. My hearing is pretty shot, though and my family tells me that they make incessant little clicking noises which I have never heard. Although some fly south for the winter and return in spring, more and more of them now stick around here for the winter, knowing that the food tank will be washed and topped of weekly.
If we forget, they pace back and forth in front of the window carrying little picket signs, while anxiously looking at their little watches...
