Fullonica. This privately owned laundry washed, bleached and dyed clothing. The building was a wealthy home at one time, but had been converted for use as a business. There was an ironing room where a press was found, an open air room on the second floor for drying and a large washing tub pictured here.
A skeleton was found at the entrance with a large sum of money close by. It's unknown if this was the owner trying to save his takings at the time of the eruption, or a thief looting the Caupona of Lucius Betutius (Vetutius) Placidus. |
