The fame of the town was further enhanced because Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520), a painter of international renown, was born here and spent the first years of his life in contact with the art, learned in the workshop of his father, Giovanni Santi (1433-1494): situated at Casa Natale di Raffaello (on via di Raffaello). A typical middle class renaissance house, plain and compact, Raffaello was born here on the 6th of April 1483 It was in Urbino that Raffaello “ learnt the divine proportions of the mind, above all he learnt the value of philosophy and the dignity of the painter” ( Carlo BO ,1984). Therefore Raffaello has a debt with Urbino – continues Carlo Bo – that he has continually repaid over the course of the centuries: the city’s name has remained forever linked with its illustrious son
