Tiberius Bridge is the golden jewel of the Roman times. This bridge marks the beginning of the Aemilian Way or Via Emilia (back then the cities were settled every 20 kilometers along the way because that was the distance a Roman soldier could walk in a day) and it is a testament to the superb engineering of the ancient Romans. .
This Roman stone bridge stretching across the old part of the Marecchia in Rimini was started by Emperor Augustus and completed by Emperor Tiberius around 20 AD. The stone arch bridge is 62 metres long, 8.6 metres wide and rests on massive piers with five round arches. It is revetted with beautiful white marble on the outside. The piers are ornamented with image apertures. |
