Thanks, this was part of an Altar Installation that I made to help mourn. This is one of four figures I made to deal with the pain that I felt after my mom died. It was a great experience making these with hammers, and chisels! Good Therapy :))) So yes he is an ancient Demon of sorts...

Oh, I'm very sorry for you and your mom! Difficult to say anything, but this is really the worst thing you can experience- when a loved one dies. Maybe the demon has now a bit of your mom's soul and protects you..that's how they work in central africa, I Think. The dead ancestors live in the sculptures of the gods and protect the living (as long as they are fed and cared for,hehe.)

Exactly_ they were conceived to be guardians...But you do need to feed them...OFTEN.
