You were lucky, then.... Sunny days are a bit of a commodity ;) Evidenced by the fact that ferns, normally understory, low light plants, growing out in the open where they'd normally be overwhelmed and die off in full sun exposure....

Yes, the UK is generally very rainy but the Scottish North West is quite a lot more humid!! More photos to come of the kind of woods this generates.
