Toronto's Far Away Islands
If you live in Toronto and you need to escape to the country, hop on a subway to Union station and then board an underground streetcar to get to the shoreline of Lake Ontario.
It's only a 5 minute ferry ride away, but it feels like the Toronto Islands are far, far away from our noisy, crowded city of 2 million.
Not only are there acres of park....
....there is a small community living on Ward's Island.
Once upon a time these houses were tiny cottages, but they have undergone many changes over the years.
A lot of the houses look pretty funky and they still have that casual look that a cottage community develops.
Cars aren't allowed on the island, unless they belong to the City of Toronto.
Because of this, people have invented ways to transport themselves, their friends and their groceries from the ferry docks to their homes.
It's only a 5 minute ferry ride away, but the noisy, crowded city of 2 million.seems far, far away from this community in a park.
