Finding Curb Appeal
We moved into our very own house in 2000. There was lots of room inside for Larry and me and our two college student kids as well as for their girlfriends and boyfriends who stayed with us over the years.
The house had zero "curb appeal". The front steps looked like a laundry stoop, there was no 'buffer' zone between the living room and the sidewalk, and you had to trip over a rock collection to get to the car.
The sliding windows let in very little air and the lawn was parched and boring.
Seven years later we have a lovely tree that the City planted...a japanese lilac that is fast growing.
We replaced the windows to let in lots of air. We removed the grill from the screen door and painted it white.
I encouraged existing vines to cover the brickwork.
I dug up the entire front lawn, added a lot of compost and manure to the sandy soil.
We shifted the walkway to the right to get rid of the obstacles to the car.
Larry and Jesse built a wonderful set of steps with nice, deep risers. and a shelf for a plant.
