Yes, I think I would have fully included the young man (for scale).

To my untrained eye, it looks like a tree.

But with the boy in the picture I know instead it is hundreds of
years old and is quite large. This makes a much more interesting
picture, because it's now all on a human scale. Hope this helps.

This was taken some years ago before I took more than just a passing interest in Photography. I agree with your comment.
