I always had a soft spot for birds with nude heads, they look so personable and caracterful!
I still find the bald heads a bit weird. But they are definitely nicer to photograph. Just try and imagine this shot with a "normal" black head. It wouldn't be near as nice.
No matter if light dark or close to landscape colours, most birds in flight are difficult to judge the right distance and exposure for, needs both experiance and luck to get a shot good enough to see all detail. Those with colourful fieldmarks and better yet contrasting eyes or eyerings make somewhat better "cheats", usually easier to focus and also easier to improve little shortcomings with some post-processing, but with this turkey vulture you did a well enough job to see feater details wing-to-wing, so it would have been also a very fine job if it was a Great Raven.
The easy solution is of course to just shot the silhuette! LOL
