Really? It sure is pretty, but that would be an awful lot of ginger to store for a regular household!

Hi guys. Yeah I thought it might be way oversized for Ginger, too. It's just that the ones that I have seen that were that shape were called Ginger Jars. Perhaps my lack of education in Chinese art is showing, again. Do you know what this might be, if it's not a Ginger Jar? Thanks for the comments!

Many still call them "ginger jars" or "temple jars"... The correct names, though, are "soldier vase" or "dragoon vase". They were primarily created for the nutty rich Europeans who wanted these big, showy vases as a symbol of wealth.... Chinese artisans obliged -- though it took nothing away from the significant skill needed to create the prized porcelain giants. They can be as big as 6ft. tall! Modern replicas have taken on a life of their own -- taking liberties with the original design/form... The lid on this one is an example of that.
