This giraffe died on august 19, 2002 in Qalquiliyah Zoo, when Israeli forces in the wake of the second intifada moved into the city. It is believed that the noise from the shootings made the giraffe, Brownie, panic and run into an iron bar. It bumped his head and collapsed to the ground. This caused Brownie to die, as a giraffes heart is designed to pump blood upwards. A lion, a zebra and a baboon also died in the zoo. They were all stuffed by the local veterinarian Sami Khader and are now housed in a specially built "museum" adjacent to the zoo.
