radar

the radar systems at fort lawton, where you can see the FAA radar here, used to run the nike anti-missile defense systems for the seattle area. the last gasp effort to defend against a nuclear strike.

this is the view from outside my apartment, and it makes me think about the apocalypse.

When we visited, we saw *no* mountains at all. So this view looks very new to me... and apocalyptic.

I didn't know nike were in the anti-missile defense business.

brenda - you visited on a cloudy day, i think. you may have been able to see everything here except the mountains.

We never saw any glimpse of mountains during our entire 4 day visit. 'Twas a tad disappointed and felt like we missed a bit of the Pacific Northwest experience in that respect.

For all the times I've been to Seattle, rare was the trip when I could see the mountains. But Gosh, when you can see them, they are spectacular.

especially the volcanoes.

We did see a volcano from the airplane on our flight back to SF. :)

My mother visited here two years ago and left not fully believing the two mountain ranges existed.

(She was actually in attendance for the 1962 World's Fair, up with the family from Oakland, though she was too young to remember if there were visible mountains or not...)

@dotism, yes, I had my doubts as well. :)

The trick of course is to make the short trip to the mountain... and then doubt whether the city exists or not...
