Winter is wonderful!

That bootom edge stuff is actually some of the busiest springs. They make for nice patterned ice holes but a weak surface. This little side arm of the bay, deadwaters of the Rhine when it was still wild and now a divide between the sand island nature reserve and the gated naturist beach, is not very deep I think. Swans use to swim there in summer sunny side up and eat from the bottom ...
So a few bruises and a cold should be much likelier than a first prize darwin award in case someone of regular height and in good health takes a soak , but I would still not really be happy to try it out.

Thanks, Fizgig, but they are mistles for the most part, I think. Perhaps a Magpie has got smuggled a nest inbetween, hard to say even from the full size original of the shot.
