A place for those who want to talk about their experiences at Flickr and discuss things in general.

descender   December 06, 2007, 12:17 AM

I give up with this site. I will change my username and "forget" the password.

And I give back of sharing my candid pics in the internet. I have shared my best pics in my deleted flickr during 3 months and 76000 views. A lot of people has enjoyed with them. That's enough for me because I began with my flickr account because I was bored one day.

So thanks to everybody

I know what you mean descender, I've been sick to my stomach with all these changes. 2 years of building the GWC group, over 800,000 hits to the photosteam another 90,000 linked to my blog. I had things going like a clock. I have a few plans in the works but I just don't know if it's worth it. It takes so much time to work out the details with little chance of the suceeding. The fact is the places where we post can do what ever they like and change for whatever reason the want at any time.

At least here they did not demand I delete my images. the thing is that there are so few people here anyway, what differnce does it make.

Hopefully one of our friends can find a place for us to display our work. There has got to be a place where so many viewer can view our work. The numbers speak for themselves. There are a lot of people who like what we produce.

......   December 06, 2007, 06:48 AM

Since they have deleted the candid-groups and set all my pics to „private“, I give up this site as well.

ipernity.com is another possible site. I have created a free account http://www.ipernity.com/doc/droit and a group http://www.ipernity.com/group/31385 for testing there. There are a bit more viewers than here, but I seem to be the only poster of candid pics and nobody else posted to the group, so I stopped posting. The advantage of ipernity is that you could upload 200 MB per month on a free account and 1000 pics are visible (according to http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pY3Yqb16kL2aP3SsbgExZZg&gid=2 ). But of course I don’t know if the would delete the candid pics, if there were many of them.

So it seems that there is no real alternative to flickr at the moment. I started to (re-)post on various free flickr-accounts again (surely I will not pay money to flickr anymore, since they deleted my pro-account after 3 or 4 month and over 400’000 views, and of course they didn’t pay any money back). btw I created the groups http://www.flickr.com/groups/candidgirls/ , http://www.flickr.com/groups/candidbikini/ and http://www.flickr.com/groups/sexysports/ for them.

But perhaps I will keep my pictures for my own again in the future (and I have still a lot of pics that I have taken but not edited and posted yet).

Thanks for your post droit. I am sure something will turn up soon or later. I have heard of ipernity but I remember someone said that there might be problems for candids.

I have not loaded any new work to Flickr, but like you I have a ton of new work to post and even more to process. But I'm not going to process them till I get a clearer place to post.

Getting time to search for a new place or try to work things out at either 23 or flickr take a lot of planning. I want to start a protest group at flickr to get members to petition Flickr to change their policy. Also to talk to 23 tell them the golden opertunity they are missing to do something different than Flickr that can put them on the map. With our numbers we can really give this place a much needed boost. If you look at most of the groups here they have little or no activity. Discussions where the last comment was 6 months ago. This is their most popular groups!

I have faith we will find a site to host us.

I'm almost ready to give up on the free photo sharing sites, it seems they equate female candids with porn, which couldn't be more apart from reality.
I would recommend you all take a look at http://www.blacksheepcandids.com, the stuff shared in there is great, high quality and people are great to deal with.

GirlWatcher   December 06, 2007, 04:50 PM

Thanks guys! I am sure we will find a place with a nice balance. I would join a place like blacksheep but I always felt my stuff was good for general public photo groups. I don't want to go to many different places to post my pics. Takes too long to post images as it is. I want to stick to one sight and really work to get membership up and provide the best quality work I can give.

EdV, I joined Blacksheep but it is slow to navigate and I can't figure out how to upload pics. If I understand correctly, Blacksheep dislpays the images I posted at an other service, like uhm, Flickr? Then, what's the point?
I wonder.
Thanks!

I also tried blacksheep and it's really rather slow and it is arranged like discussion-forum and not a photo-site, what makes it time-consuming to navigate. It is complicated to upload pics, at least I uploaded two pics using imageshack (as recommended, but it's true, using flickr would be easier - then you must insert the URL in a new thread). This is certainly no solution for a large number of pics.

edvphoto   December 07, 2007, 03:39 PM

Yes, Blacksheepcandids is a forum, not a photo sharing site, and as such, it would take longer to navigate. I like the forum format 'cause you get more feedback than in a photosharing site. I think the owners of the site will offer uploading space after you have shared a couple of threads, at least they did that with me. I simply upload the pictures to the site, and don't have to use flickr or other site.

GW, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but in general, female candid pictures do not mix well with the general public. As funny as it sounds, if you make them black and white and try to add an "artistic" twist to them, they are OK, but the ones that must of us have, which are borderline voyeuristic are not welcomed in photography sites. That's the pure truth. I have accepted this fact, and that's part of the reason I'm part of the candid forums. I will try to keep my flickr and 23HQ account for the more artistic shots.

GirlWatcher   December 07, 2007, 04:28 PM

Ed,
I understand the nature and edgyness of our work but I thought that was part of the reason for it's popularity amoung viewers. I have the Hub page where I put the best of GW. There they have a approval process from viewers. While there is some vocal objectors, the "thumbs up" runs about 25 to one. The supporters of our work don't want to speak up and bring unwanted complains upon themselves. I have many women fans there as well.

Maybe we should start a place of our own? It doesn't look to be that hard from the way 23hq seems to be set up. does anybody know any programmers?

I just don't understand why these sites seem to take a harder stand on candids than on porn. If you go to flickr, and click on "everyone's photos" in the main page, you'll see an "R" rated picture every one or two screens, and an "X" rated every three or four. You have to click multiple times to find a candid picture.

GirlWatcher   December 11, 2007, 07:29 AM

I joined Droit and Edv at Ipernity. I go by the name Gee Dub. Started a group called Photo Potourri. A more everything type group. I should be able to hide a few good works in there. I made a rule to join the group that you cannot report anything in the group to Ipernity authorities. I think 23hq is going to be a little bump in the road to better things at Ipernity.
