Apropos of a discussion else-thread about shooting B&W vs. post-production, here's a story about me playing with Photoshop to turn a challenging photo into a monochrome image. Not wildly successful, but it was a good learning experience.

I might try this again tonight on a less challenging colour photo of my own, and post the results here. I definitely need more practice with Photoshop.
I'm thinking of shooting B&W for a day, and then comparing what the camera does to what I can do post-production. Sounds like another Story is in the works!

That's really interesting. B&W needs far more attention than full colour, doesn't it? I would try this too but I don't usually find black and white appropriate for the photos I take.

Mikkel Aalands book on RAW with Photoshop CS2 (OReilly) has a great and very useful chapter on b&w postpro, if you can get hold of it (most of it not only being valid for RAW shots).

I prefer postproduction in RAW convertor, because I could choose film type, exposition correction ans so on after shooter release. I don't like photoshop - it cost as much as prime fix-focal lens and need additional plugins (mostly non-free) to emulate monochrome film types. Sure it very flexible, but I don't need so much features.
