more on the spices exhibition
The new quarters of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego are about to house 310 pounds of turmeric. Substantial quantities of clove and cumin will be on hand, too; about 180 pounds of each. The amounts of ginger, pepper and annatto will be only slightly smaller.

All of these spices are courtesy of Brazilian sculptor Ernesto Neto, whose latest creation will fill the largest gallery in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's renovated Santa Fe Depot baggage building (now called the Jacobs Building) when it opens to the public Jan. 21.
