Need help sorting out how to use 23? Or have you discovered one of those nasty bugs?

Monthly quota did not reset (again)

jbt   August 02, 2011, 09:36 PM

It's already August 2nd and it still says I have no uploads left, while I carefully uploaded the 30 pics *before* August 1 00:00 here in CET zone. What's up with that?

Hi Julius,

The reset isn't done at exact 00:00:00 -- it's done on the last of every month to ensure that the credit are available not on, but by, the 1st of the month. In this case, the quota reset was run before you uploaded your last batch of photos. So that's what's up with that.

Steffen

You have got to be kidding me. So you're actually saying you decide that your month ends before the month actually ends according to the calendar? Excuse me if I tell you that this is simply a trick to lure people into a paid account, and it's sort of, well really dumb and illogical to do so. Not to mention off-putting and simply annoying.

Sorry to have to say this, but this idiotic idea ads to the fact that the community here is sort of, well, not there. I've had several responses on flickr and even zooomr when using a free account, on the exact same pics. Here, barely any user notices anything.
Which is not really that surprising when the photo caption is non-existing, or in small font below the photograph. Who designed this weird layout anyway? Must be a danish thing.

I also noticed you seem to allow spammers to place comments under my uploads. You must be the only photo-hoster that manages to let spam through to its users photographs.

Thanks but I guess I'll move away from 23. It's been a waste of my time.

I am not kidding you -- and I guess I'll add that I really haven't tried to offend you. Apparently, I managed to do so anyway. Must be a Danish thing.

Sorry to intrude into the discussion, but the whole "you have uploaded xyz photos this month" measurement seems to be not very reliable. The numbers it gives are sometimes totally off. I suppose this is done to keep the sql load within limits and the site responsive.
But at least for non-plus members there should be an indication to which month their uploads are accounted on. (Btw: What happens if your line is slow and the monthly reset is during an upload?)

@Julius
Spammers are a pest at the moment, that's true. And you're not the only target. From what Steffen explained, 23 switched anti-spam providers to keep up with demand and now has to retrain the filters. If there is spam,
use the spam link and if there are several spams the filters didn't count simply post a link in the spam threat here in the group and Steffen will see to it. IkoTakishi even wrote a script to automate this.
Anway, it'd be sad to see you go — I like your photos.

@nachbarnebenan: Resets are done transactionally and the upload is counted when we receive the photo. So there's a cut-off time on the last the of the month where this happens. I think the counting itself is described elsewhere in the forums, so I'll leave it there.

As for spam, I'm switching off anonymous comments for a bit and requiring captchas for all comments; just to kinda stem the wave of spammers.

I must remember to comment on ordinary photos of Ovaltine in the future.

I don't understand the comment and favourite whoring that some folks seem to be into.
