I just realized the shorturl link on a photo's format page. Nice!
And another thing: in the list of available formats on the right there's a 'Large1k' format that *does* display correct dimensions and the photo on this page but *doesn't* display dimensions and photo on that page.

We didn't convert old photos; so large1k is only available from recent months. When (?) we start actively using the size, we'll have prepared versions for older photos as well.

Speaking of formats.... are animated gifs really needed on 23?
I've got nothing against them as an image format... but perhaps if they are supported they should behave more like a video upload, with a "click to play" option. Seeing them scattered about in the "just in" or other interfaces is a bit jarring.

I've seen animated gifs in user avatars as well, which makes them even less avoidable...

Animated GIFs in any interface are definitely clunky.

I wouldn't say that we're explicitly fans of animated GIFs; but nor are we set up only for high-res photos. You can definitely find accounts on 23 of only animations, just as you'd be able to find accounts with only screenshots, only drawings, only graffiti or only landscapes.
At other photo sharing services a choice has been made to prune content to the liking of a subset of the community -- here (for the moment) we don't see a substantial need for this. Fortunately, you'll still find the Just In pages to consist overwhelmingly of photography as envisioned by out forefathers.

In the event the service grows to the point where you have re-consider such things... I agree there is no reason to forbid them, but more controls for users not wishing to see them in common site areas (other than a user's pages), would be appreciated.
For now I can just set my browser to never run them. ;-)
