Need help sorting out how to use 23? Or have you discovered one of those nasty bugs?

Inviting people to 23

claudecf   December 16, 2009, 11:23 PM

I realize that I can very well write a mail to my friends and give them the url of 23, but I have been looking through the site for some sort of form, which would allow me to do just that, invite the friends, not only to come and see my photos, but to join 23 and see if they like it.
Maybe it is somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere. Help! ;)

clickykbd   December 16, 2009, 11:51 PM

Have you tried the "send" link in the top menu?

They become "invited guests" to the content you share that way... and are also prompted to finish signing up if they would like to.

If you have a photogroup set up where you intend to share stuff "at them", you can also use the invite features on the groups in a similar fashion. That was the topic of this huge thread in Nexus. 23 has some features slated it seems to make that photogroup method work even better.

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 09:53 AM

I did try the "send" link in the top menu.
But I hate pushing my photos on to people. Let's say I feel a bit shy about it and would prefer to have an easy way of inviting them to 23

clickykbd   December 17, 2009, 10:04 AM

invite them to Nexus as a gateway where all your friends are hanging out?

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 10:13 AM

Well, I hate to do this, but have a look at the flickr way of doing it
Easy and nonobtrusive... until you get to the Yahoo! part, that is
yuck!

Hah, I even completely forgot about that (primary) one. So many ways to invite people around here. I'd speculate it's even easier and seamless here on 23, albeit one at a time.

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 10:33 AM

Just tried one on myself. Needs a few corrections ;)
"I'm sharing my all my digital photos at 23, and I wanted to invite you to see them.
You'll see thumbnails of the my photos and you can click on the photos to see a bigger versions or comment on them."
Would be better like this
"I'm sharing all my digital photos at 23, and I wanted to invite you to see them.
You'll see thumbnails of my photos and you can click on the photos to see a bigger version or comment on them"

claudecf, internet proofreader : ]

striatic   December 17, 2009, 10:39 AM

while we are at it:

"Your message with be sent via e-mail, including your contct details."

should read:

"Your message *will* be sent via e-mail, including your *contact* details."

clickykbd   December 17, 2009, 10:42 AM

I think claudecf might actually be interested in writing her own invitation text? Which actually would be nice in addition to this boilerplate.

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 10:46 AM

striatic also internet proofreader

While we are at it, have a look at the French message

"J'ai mis toutes mes photos en partage sur le site 23, je voudrais que tu les vois.
Elles sont disponible en tant que miniature, en cliquant dessus tu pourras les agrandir et mettre un commentaire.

Tu peux consulter toutes mes photos sur http://www.23hq.com/claudecf/."
The title is Regardez mes photos
I would keep the title which uses the "vous"
and change
J'ai mis toutes mes photos en partage sur le site 23, je voudrais que tu les voies.
Elles sont disponibles en tant que miniatures, en cliquant dessus vous pourrez les agrandir et les commenter.

or change the title to
Regarde mes photos
J'ai mis toutes mes photos en partage sur le site 23, je voudrais que tu les voies.
Elles sont disponibles en tant que miniature, en cliquant dessus tu pourras les agrandir et les commenter.

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 10:46 AM

@clickykbd I certainly would!

Steffen Tiedemann Christensen Team 23   December 17, 2009, 10:48 AM

Hmm, now you're asking me to remember who does the French translation work. Wow.

striatic   December 17, 2009, 10:48 AM

it is a good thing claudecf is here, since i would translate the french text to "zut alors! n'est pas? oui oui, donc pamplemousse."

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 10:56 AM

@Steffen sorry! Also, in the French version, it tells me everything in French, except for
claudecf plus Has recently uploaded 2 photos to the album titled home
which would go something like
a téléchargé dernièrement 2 photos dans l'album intitulé "home" or more simple
dans l'album "home"
@striatic that would do it!

IkoTikashi   December 17, 2009, 10:59 AM

@stc: I could change the texts if you wish, nothing interesting to do at work atm :)

striatic   December 17, 2009, 11:04 AM

"téléchargé"

this, along with pamplemousse, are proof positive that the french language is the greatest on earth.

edit: now i just need to figure out how to get both of them into the same sentence. like "pouvez-vous s'il vous plaît télécharger le pamplemousse?".

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 11:08 AM

@striatic, not really, because télécharger means both upload and download, which is why a lot of people will use the English... It just occured to me that importer and exporter would be much better!

striatic   December 17, 2009, 11:10 AM

aw. but "pouvez-vous s'il vous plaît exporter le pamplemousse?" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. oh well, obviously i know nothing of french. : [

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 11:11 AM

while IdoTikashi is around, I am not sure I get the concept of step1b on your geotagging tool, in other words, what should I type to get a tag like polperro to become geotagged geo:lat=50.3315086 geo:long=-4.519528 place:polperro
I have tried place:polperro but it doesn't seem to work.
Or maybe I have to manually insert geotagged geo:lat=50.3315086 geo:long=-4.519528 place:polperro every time?

striatic   December 17, 2009, 11:18 AM

@claudecf - enter just "polperro" into field 1b, then hit search.

then copy the generated tags from the bottom field including "place:polperro" and paste them into your tag field.

then, if you later want to add another photo for that location, enter the tag place:polperro directly on 23 - no need to go to 23tools again.

claudecf   December 17, 2009, 11:52 AM

Thanks, @striatic. As I understand it, it will only work on photos that I upload later on. I have tried the place:polperro thing on other photos and it doesn't work

IkoTikashi   December 17, 2009, 11:57 AM

Nope, it also works for existing photos. You need to have atleast one photo with geotags and a place: tag. Adding the place: tag to an existiong photo also adds the geotags for that place. You might need to reload the page to see the map.

IkoTikashi   December 17, 2009, 12:00 PM

I just added the tag place:polperro to this photo of yours (http://www.23hq.com/claudecf/photo/5177473) - works.

clickykbd   December 17, 2009, 01:31 PM

This thread is in danger of needing a new title (or several) . Ohh yeah, we can't edit those! ;-)

GustavoG   December 17, 2009, 03:23 PM

"I'm sharing all my digital photos at 23, [...]"

Would be less grandiloquent, and more precise, to drop the word "all" from that.

claudecf   December 18, 2009, 11:08 AM

Coming back to the original subject, I really would appreciate being able to word my own invitation. One of my flickr friends replied to what she received from me yesterday, and honestly, I don't know if I wouldn't take it as just another spam message.
