Hi,
I'm having a bit of a problem, when i try to upload photos through the regular uploader (the Flash-based) on Mac OS X.
I get the following error:
Network or file error occured when uploading [filename]
I have tried in both FireFox 3.5.3 (screenshot) and Safari 4.0.3 (6531.9) (screenshot) with the same discouraging result.
Uploading the same files using the flash uploader and Internet Explorer or FireFox on my Windows computer works fine.
Uploading the same files using the simpler uploader also works fine on Mac OS X (screenshot).
My flash version is the most current on both systems (10.0.32.18), verified through Adobe's Flash version tester.
OS X version is 10.6.1 (danish). If you need more or other information, please don't hesitate to ask :o)
I'm really stuck here, so any form of input (suggestions, ideas, what-ever) is most welcome.
In kind regards, Henrik.

Are you uploading from a network share or from a local drive? (Flash distinguishes between the two and considers the first to be a network error. "Local untrusted content may not communicate with the Internet" as they write in their docs.)

They are uploaded from a local drive (OS main drive actually).

Interesting -- that makes your system absolutely identical to mine: Mac OS X 10.6.1, FF 3.5.3, and Flash 10,0,32,18. And I'm not having any trouble.
I'm wondering if this is caused by special local Flash settings on your end, but frankly Adobe's docs are not too helpful. Are you using any encryption on your user folder? Any weird stuff that you can think of?

I have no special flash settings (that i know of - does the Flash player even have other settings than those usually available though the right-click menu?) and FileVault and similar are disabled. My firewall is also disabled. I have even tried to disable all plug-ins in FF (except Flash Player) and that didn't help either.
I have tried to remove and re-install the Flash Player and are now running the 10.0.32.18 debugger version (so i'm quite sure that it is a new and different version if the Flash Player i'm running :o)).
The debugger did provide me with some more info, as i now get the following error sometimes (but not always):
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at main/unloadApp()
at MethodInfo-546()
at Function/http://adobe.com/AS3/2006/builtin::apply()
at flash.external::ExternalInterface$/_callIn()
at <anonymous>()
I have even tried various security setting in FireFox, but that didn't help either.
As a final idea, i have tried created a new user on my computer and uploading a file from that account, but that didn't help either.
I'm quite at a loss... :oS

Hey Henrik,
Thank for the great debugging work you've done here -- even though we're no nearer to a solution to the problem. I'm guessing the #1009 error is probably from JavaScript and seems to be unrelated to this issue; which leaves us back a square one. Is anyone else seeing this problem?
(A quick fix would be to recommend Pixelpipe: They do a great desktop upload app (a few actually), which can easily be set up to work with 23. Alternatively, there's the Fotofox plugin for Firefox, which allows drag-n-drop uploading.)

I too have been getting this error on and off. And off lately very frequently. I dont upload from a network drive and the gmail flash uploader on the same browser and laptop has never errored out ever. I have a windows xp machine and I have tried the 23hq uploader from chrome, opera, firefox, ie and I get the same problem.
Interestingly, it uploads one picture and then throws the error.
Let me know if there is a easy way out. The 23hq up-loader is the only way I am going to upload the pictures because the others are hacks and don't work very well (especially with tags).

There's a "simple uploader" link on the Upload page. You might want to try this.

But isnt that one picture at a time? I usually upload a bunch of pictures together. A workaround for this problem might be if its possible to upload a single zip file with all the pictures in that.
Still this problem is a genuine one and someone needs to take a look at it. The flash uploader might need some debugging. If there is a way to setup the debug option in the app, I can try and get the log to the developers.

While your first photo uploads, you can select others to upload, so it's kind of multiple uploads.

Remember you can zip up your photos and submit them as one big file. On the Mac, it is really easy to zip up as directory with a right-click gesture.
At least until you sort out the fancy uploader issue.

Just FYI:
With the latest update of FireFox (3.6.8) and Flash (10.1.53.64) release it now works with the Flash-uploader for me. Works in Safari (5.0.1 (6533.17.8)) as well. I don't know exactly what update has altered this behaviour.

Wow, that's very cool! Also, there's nicely accelerated video for Mac users in the new Flash, so good stuff is happening ;-)
