I think the word you're looking for is "shorn" to describe their haircut.... Grass gets "mown", sheep get "shorn".... Anyway, nicely detailed shot =)

Normaly sheep get shorn, but this ones look like they got under the lawn mower. You never use mowing in this sense, as pointing out a particulary poor looking haircut, as in "Have you had an accident with the lawn mower or did you try the new barber at the mall?"

Oh... Didn't realizing you were making a joke.... Thought it was a translator gone wrong ;)

Bad haircuts... Yeah.... The saying usually refers to "hedge clippers" in the US. I guess lawnmower would work, too... It's just that mowed lawns generally look neater afterwards. Whereas clipped hedges often look terrible until they start growing back to fill in the damage -- much like these poor sheep coats ;)

At midle Spring they need to be sheared because they get realy hot.

If the shear is made carefuly doesn't hurt them.

But the shear revealed the one on the left is too skinny, maybe grass is not enough for her.

This is rather high up in the mountain pastures of southern Tyrolia, in a highly touristic place however, right next to a gondola lift station. I have no idea why this sheep is so thin at the flank. The farmers up there actually post "noo feeding" signs or make double fences with a gap to the trail least the trustier lifestock start living of sweets and sandwich bread.

As for shearing, I know it is a difficult art and it tends normally to look just awful the first days after the wool harvest, unless the sheep is a pet and the owner extremely careful and gifted. I also know sheep that get not shorn at all can look far worse once they loose the winter coat all over the place by themselves.

They still looked very funny that freshly shorn.
