That is a Fuchsia =) Neat how it's coming through that window! Nice find & capture...

Oh really? I should have suspected the possibility and check less superficial.

Okay, I leafed through Dave's Garden Fuchsia list and found a number of registered low hanging varieties with a very decided crimson wide and short outside and a near white or pure white much longer inside, "Alsace", "Santa Claus" ,"Patio Princess", "'Madame Cornelissen", "Rys" or "Ruddy Rodney"..... could be well any one of that.

There are others with this color combo.... 'Lady Thumb', 'New Wind Chimes', ‘Santa Claus’, ‘Red & White’, 'Sir Matt Busby', and more.... Dave's Garden is great (I contribute a LOT of photos for their database), but they're databases are far from complete..... Not that I'm knocking the site, mind you, it's darn near impossible to list every possible hybrid nowadays.... And more are created every day --- often for no better reason that "'cause I can".... I mean, the Fuchsias we've listed are a great example --- does the world really need yet another red and white Fuchsia? =D

Generally, why any Fuchsias at all taking the role and looks of Bleeding Hearts from afar unless they are better suited for a somewhat different climate or can do with a smaler pot for the roots or somesuch advantages? There are two in the Dave's garden list noted as "hardy" of this colour scheme sans filling with more petals than nature intended one of which looks much slimmer and enlongated as the other. So much for enough prudent mainstream selection.
This little shack window at 900m above sealevel next to the mountainbike parking lot of a country inn was most likely decorated with something easy to pick up from the next garden market or superstore and befitting the climate zone, to invest minimal extra time and money for maximal nice looks.

I dunno, but I don't think they look anything like Bleeding Hearts at all..... Yeah, they share a color scheme, but that's about where the similarities end ;) You certainly wouldn't find Bleeding Hearts in bloom in Oct. unless something drastic had been done to the plant to force blooming --- like shearing it back to ground level a couple of months before.

I like Fuchsias.... I just think there's an unnecessary slew of hybrids of them that look alike --- there's no point to the hybridization of the plant if the flowers are not going to look any diff't for that color scheme. There are a few hardy varieties that would tolerate the cold a bit better, but I don't believe any of them would really survive an alpine winter to bloom the following season.

Still a nice find =)

Very pretty, Sonja.

That's true, they will die completely if left in the ground or outdoor pot when serious frosts come. But serious frosts come much later than occassional nights in the single digits. The later can start just with the school year.... so, Germany got different climate zones, and above 800m far from the sea climate they do not recomend you to plant a lot of things.
When I think of fuchsia, I usually think of pink stuff that is filled with a darker purple shade.... the colour is named for those for sure.

Most Fuchsias are hybrids of the tropical varieties.... And most will die off before freezing. We've had a few in our gardens off and on over the years -- both in ground and in planters -- and they usually keel over once temps. consistently stay below 45˙F in our experience and generally stop blooming once temps. stay in the low 50's (˙F). They're a fun eye-catcher, but not very hardy.... And a bug magnet to boot -- especially in warmer climes which is where they'd thrive generally.... Not the good bugs either, but the ones that will see the plant as a salad with colorful toppings ;)

I love every aspect of this! Especially as I used to major on fuchsias in a previous life!
