Photogroup Announcements

ericdege   June 22, 2006, 12:17 AM

..until photogroup-search is implemented, this seems like a good place to announce new photogroups
..I just started one for monitor Wallpapers and Backgrounds
..it's specifically for pictures that would look cool on your desktop and so must be the right size and aspect for that, 4:3 (16:9 for widescreen monitors) and at least 1024x768 pixels
..if anyone else has started a group recently, I sure wish you'd post it here so I could find you, expecially for nature photos or photos specific to the southern US

! @SeX#─────█████████════█   June 25, 2006, 09:07 AM

i´ve started http://23hq.com/group/streetart June 25, 2006

streetart in my eyes
-_-posters/past ups
-_- stickers
+ installations

6.7.06 http://23hq.com/group/Deutschland

geholfen wird dort auch, es existiert ein Hilfe thread , worüber zumindest ich (u. evtl noch mehr user) per Mail von dem Problem erfahren.

ericdege   June 27, 2006, 12:24 AM

..I started another group: Photo Restoration and Colorization : repaired and/or colorized old/damaged pictures. Posts should have before and after shots and a short description of how the restorations were done
..this will also be the place to learn about photo restoration and if you have a photo that's damaged you can post it here and see if one of the members can fix it

Th Clvr Mnky   July 05, 2006, 09:09 PM

ericdege   July 06, 2006, 06:12 AM

..I'm hesitant to start a photogroup if there's already one out there with the same subject
..has anyone run across a group for
....."old photos" (like, 50+ years old)?
....."nature scenes" (flora/fauna & landscapes)?
....."our kids" (child photography)?

Th Clvr Mnky   July 07, 2006, 05:50 PM

It's probably illegal where you live. The Graffiti Photogroup http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/graffiti/

Th Clvr Mnky   July 07, 2006, 05:56 PM

@ericdege:

I like the Child photography idea. I sort of feel that "nature scenes" should be split into "Landscapes/Seascapes" and "Flora/Fauna". Though I can't exactly tell you why. Maybe because another candidate group might be "Cityscapes" for those urban photogs out there.

I do have a pile of old photos which are begging for me to buy a scanner of some sort.

I say go ahead and make 'em how you like, though. Photogroups can always be refactored, deleted and recreated at will.

nicht-jens   September 22, 2006, 01:22 PM

Since i couldnt find it, i just started a group to gather pictures of live stuff.. bands, places and so on: http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/live/

Ethan   November 29, 2006, 12:32 PM

And I've which is just 'views'
http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/Views/

larsipulami   December 03, 2006, 01:45 AM

I started passages a short time ago, without recognizing this group here.

Topic should be anything that shows pathways from some "here" to some "there". It should be clear on which side the photographer is currently situated and which part of the picture composes the other side and the way thereto.

cosmonautirussi   June 23, 2007, 09:49 AM

Ah! Now I've found the announcement thread! :)

I recently founded two new groups:

http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/OpenSourcePhotography/ -

OpenSource Photography is a group for people that use OpenSource Software. This could be a program like "The Gimp", the HDR-program "QtPfsGUI", "decraw" the famous RAW-converter - or a whole system based upon OpenSource like KDE or Linux. It is for seeing the results and sharing the knowledge about this.

And http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/CreativeCommons/

The group is for images that own a CreativeCommons-based license on 23.

PimpDaddy   June 23, 2007, 10:03 AM

I am definately going to try that QtPfsGIU program out :)

Georg K.   June 23, 2007, 08:55 PM

I just startet Radio-TV Control Room because all the technology looks interesting.

Andreas Bucher-Mack   June 24, 2007, 11:57 AM

I've started the group Saarland.

New Photogroup: "Arts and Crafts"

Are you a crafty person? Do you like to make things? Do you appreciate hand-made artefacts? Arts and Crafts is a photogroup to show off examples of arts and crafts projects.

If you make stuff, or know someone who does, this is a place to display the results.

Ethan   July 14, 2007, 11:29 AM

To chico, I think the proliferation of 'best photos' groups is one of the main reasons why flickr is bad, it promotes a competitive community rather than a collborative one. Obviously though that's not the idea of the group and I wish you all the best with it.

Anyway, I've made a group about the various tools we use to create our photographs, it's called Cameras and Tools.

chico75   July 14, 2007, 11:47 AM

@ethan: when I have written that I wasn't thinking about competition but about having good photos in the group. thats all.

dhania   July 14, 2007, 11:59 AM

yeah, but I agree, all those best shot, vote-for-me, give-me-a-blinky-badge, excellence-in-whatever groups at F*** finally turned out as massive ego trips where only people with a huge community commenting and faving were "successful". I sure hope 23 can do without it... being a real community of sharing.

what makes a good photo? it is a matter of taste, after all.

just had a look at the interestingness page over there. when I joined flickr years ago (yeah I know thats a thread for the exile group), there was stunning, awesome photography, there still is, but most of it is, well, boring...

chico75   July 14, 2007, 01:07 PM

hmm, I haven't recognised any "ego trips" at flickr and even not here ... and I don't unterstand what is the problem about having good photos ?!?

Th Clvr Mnky   July 14, 2007, 01:41 PM

I imagine that the intent with "23central" was not to create a photogroup that encourages competition, but rather one where one can say "look what I did, this is one of /my/ favourites". That is, photos that you feel are your best work, regardless of rankings, comments, ratings, favourites &etc.

And, as such, anyone is free to submit their work, even if someone else does not feel it is best quality (however that particular word is defined).

Anyway, it would be hard to compete with a photogroup, because to show up at the top, all you have to do is be the latest person to submit photos!

In fact, I see such a photogroup being an interesting way to encourage dialogue. Most of us at 23 are happy to talk about photography all day, and telling people why you think a photo of yours pleases you is a good way to explore your own interests in photography. Intelligent and thoughtful comments and criticism is what you can come to expect here at 23.

And sometimes we just want to post funny pictures of our cats. Your choice!

I'll step off my soap-box now. I'm done.

chico75   July 14, 2007, 01:52 PM

the reason why i created the group 23central was just to give users a pool where they can post the photos they like most. the group is thematicaly very undifferentiated because I hoped that in this way many people would join and build also a platform for discussions.

Ethan   July 14, 2007, 02:50 PM

What I was getting at was that it reminded me of flickr. The sense of it being a competition came from there being several 'best photos' groups, which actively went out and posted prewritten comments asking people to join (that will never happen here), turning it into a myspace-style fight for views.

But I imagine here, if somebody wanted to share their best photos, they'd join your group, not create their own. Hence, no problem.

chico75   July 14, 2007, 07:39 PM

hmm, I just read the description of the group again and recocnised that the text could easily be misunderstanded. I have just changed the text. I hope now it sounds more inviting.

by the way, the url of the group changed:
http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/central/

pregnantboy   July 16, 2007, 09:44 PM

Sometimes we need to make photos with a compact camera or maybe it's the only camera we have. It's sure with a reflex you got more options and quality is better but the fantasy can do the difference. Limits are a good reason to try something new.
This group is to share tricks and pics, a way to improve the final result, a place where to learn how to get better from our compact camera whit the help of post-processing.
If you want to join the url is http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/compact/

Bye, Cesare.

I had the idea to make this group because i just bought such a lens and the image quality is impressive.

inkscar   July 26, 2007, 09:44 AM

I've missed on this place, till now. Maybe I should post a few groups I made:

http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/DUS/ - photos from and about Düsseldorf, Germany

http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/selfp/ - selfportraits, nough said.

http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/surreal/ - the surreal element in photos, a bit ambiguous but I find this to be ok.

http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/tea/ - very unambiguous - all about tea!

And, on the subject of ass kissing - I really hope 23 does not turn into this, because it would be a shame.

hi folks! up to now I've managed to create 2 groups which I'd like to announce.
1st: http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/Documentary/
--> well, it's all about documentary photography, let it be social movements, living conditions, demonstrations. preferably add series of photos, which are able to give an impression of situations or conditions.

2nd: http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/availablelight/
--> photos made under low-light conditions, only using available sourrounding light. no artificial light source which are not a structural part of the image (so lamp post are ok, if you take photos in the street next to one..) further detail in the group!

To participate in this conversation, you'll need to join the group
