Picture the Change

Ok, maybe I should go first.

My name is Adam Shyevitch, and I started Picture the Change out of a growing sense that my experience of social change didn't correspond with the images of social change so often used to illustrate the process.

I've been active in social change work of various kinds since 1985, focusing at one time or another on nuclear disarmament, US policy in Central America & Haiti, affordable housing, economic development, youth development, and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. I've been fortunate to spend much of my professional life in the non-profit sector, and a bit of it in academia as well. I have masters degrees in business administration and theology, and use both of them on a regular basis in my personal and professional work.

I've been involved with photography on and off since grade school. Over the past seven years, however, photography has become an ever more integral part of my life. I have a family, two young children, and tons and tons of pictures of them. But like social change, parenting and partnering are hard to photograph when you're engaged in the act itself.
