Finishing Touches
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ East 73rd St. & Park Ave., Manhattan, NYC, NY. High definition + HDR photos merged… ✍ I just know someone will take issue with the air conditioning unit.... So I feel I should explain.... Buildings, like this one, with landmark (city or national) status cannot have their façades modified in any way -- aside from strictly restorative work. Therefore, window air conditioning units are the only types allowed. Furthermore, certain building owners additionally restrict the allowed dimensions of or prohibit air conditioning units on the main façade of their buildings altogether to preserve the appearance of historic architecture. So, please, no gripes about the a.c. unit ;) With 100˙F temperatures being more common than not in Manhattan during the summer (with humidity & dew point levels to match), they are a necessary and inescapable part of life and prohibiting them altogether would be a danger to public health --- ask anyone in the small historic towns in Italy and France where, in recent years, residents died from heat related health effects by the dozens because a.c. units were banned in historic structures. |
