Can really see the age of it from this perspective.... Nice capture!

Likely, when this was built, the river bend was in a more respectful distance to the rocks so it made sense at all. By now it is only still standing because humans try to form the flow and break the power by putting boulders in the way.

It seems that the road at the other side is only suitable for (dangerous) hiking? You made a beautiful serie here!

Remmelt, when the road was new there where likely a few more layers of rocks towards the river bed below. The river tries to improve its bend undercutting the rock.

Today appart from this bridge and a few traces of leveling in the rocks there is no surviving road there at all, and this is built into a firm boardwalk with handrails and narrow stairs in many places. There is a picnic area directly across the river. Tour bicyclists are supposed to park their stuff either there or by that bench on the Untertoesens road at the trail head seen in the second pic of the set and walk up. For tourists in individual cars, they can use a parking lot somewhat further up on the other river side and hike from there. The boardwalk is, at least when it is dry, not dangerous at all as long sensible shoes are worn, just a triffle demanding. Anyone who is able to walk the stairways in their home unassisted should be able to do it.
