Neat little patch of wilderness on an island surrounded by... erm... wilderness.... Peaks the viewer's curiosity if nothing else ;) Nice capture!

It looks like a romantic toy-size water castle now. But in the early 19th century it was a place to harnes the power of the stream directly to turn the log rafts from the mountains first into boards, later from 1903 into into cellulose and eventually produce some electricity. As the romans did only build a wooden bridge with iron shoes down in Epfach, I guess this island could be the oldest piece of serious concrete in the whole Lech anywhere south of Augsburg.

Actually, when it was still functional it looked a bit better than todays energy waterplants, a bit like medieval covered bridges look, just on concrete blocks. And the modern cuteness with the red shiney metall roofs is due to a new function given by the nature organisation, as breeding station for wild critters.
