At Fridolin Endrass Square. They are part of a larger sculpure group all of brick, mortar and tiles. They sit and look caring -- but only for each other. / Am Fridolin Endrass Platz. Sie gehoeren zu einer grosseren Skulpturengruppe aus Ziegeln, Moertel und Kacheln. Sie sitzen da und sehen sehr sozial aus -- aber eben nur zueinander.

Now that's bizarre! Tell ya what, though, it's not easy to create such things using brick, so it did take quite a bit of skill and know-how to accomplish.

The guy who created the group is an elderly artist living in nearby Ueberlingen named Klaus Schulze, big enough to have his own Wikipedia page. He started as pottery designer and somehow discovered brick as a medium when I was not born yet. The problem with outdoor brick and tile is that it looks inviting to touch but ages fast and in ways that makes it potentially dangerous, with razorsharp edges. There is a permanent need for drymess or for winter insulation and copious amounts of agressive gravestone cleaner to scrub anually in a land that knows dampness and frost, or it's basically land art that will decay before long. Usually tile landscapes kiddies crawl about in, like at outdoor pool playgrounds, do not last very long in Germany -- none I have known as a youth still exist in the same form. Memorials by famous artists should perhaps be sturdier than a toddler slide waterfall by the beach that is replaced every other decade. This is from the late 90s and already lost a lot glazed accents and corners.
