Creek Chub ↔ Semotilus Atromaculatus
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ At the foot of one of the waterfalls at the bottom of Tumbling Waters Trail at the Pocono Environmental Education Center, Delaware Water Gap Nat'l Recreation Area, Pike County, PA. ✍ I sat down on a rock to have my lunch after a grueling downhill trek to see some waterfalls which turned out to be a waste of time and energy to try & see as there was little water flowing. My chosen spot was at the foot of one of the falls I'd hiked down to see, where a large pool of crystal clear water usually had fish to watch. No sooner had I made myself comfortable as these little Creek Chubs started making closer and closer passes to my rocky perch.... They're very inquisitive little fish -- the largest being 6-8 inches long. Once they realized I was no threat to them, they would "hover" in the water right in front of me and just watch my every move. Charming, and quick, little fish native to cold water creeks & streams in Pennsylvania -- I've come across them in some lakes and ponds as well. |
