Now, I don't know what is outside the frame, but I'm imagining if you'd turned your camera slightly to the right, so that the stairs were to the left in the picture, there would be empty space to right of them. That would possibly be a stronger statement of stairs leading to nowhere?

I wanted the silhouette of the trees too .... and camera panned to the right means stuff I don't want :-/
