Hopefully just for a really short visit...

it'll probably be at least two days - just back after a pretty hard day. lot's of waiting time, unprofessional conduct, bad processes, lack of acknowledgement and communication - but it all saved after 12 hours by an old-school magnificient doctor who knew what he was talking about and took storms condition seriously.

I must admit that I understand your frustrations (and being a nurse) reading what you write makes me a bit sad. Good thing that you met one competent doctor ( I know they still exist)...
I hope he and the nurses will give you and your family the best care :-)

Best wishes.

ahh, didn't know that you are a nurse.

what's mind boggling is how much it's about designing the experience/process. i only met one unprofessional individual - a doctor who spend 60% of her short time with us implying that my kid was faking the pain and ended up by asking me what i thought it was!. (leading me to hint that i unfortunaly didn't spend an academic education to know the answer).
the rest we're super-professional from a human stand point.

it's just a badly designed system.

our whole first day there could have been 30 minutes long if one senior doctor had looked at storm after 15 minutes of being signed in, weight/temperature/blood samples, etc.

but i guess it's all about resources - got the impression that the single senior doctor was handling 40 kids or something at the same time.

I'm a nurse, but my own frustrations about working in, as you write, a badly designed system, made me think and reconsider my career choice. Luckily and sadly I'm one of those Nightingale types who just wants to help sick people, so I'll probably go back to nursing in 6 months, when I get my bachelor in nutrition and health...

And yes, it's mostly about resources and competent vs. incompetent staff but it's also about the fact, that when working with real human beings with real human emotions, frustrations etc, things often seem chaotic and that's just the way it is ... Sometimes. But I also agree with you; it's a badly designed system and it takes a loooooong time (=dinero, amigo) to change that, trust me.

I hope you got the name of the good doctor, so that you can ask for him when you need it :-) It's always good to remember the names of the good people, right?
