Skizzenbuch Nr. 59, S. 06 recto: Ausblick eines Cafés am Ufer (von Marsaille?)

Paul Klee [Sunday Apr-5, 1914]: "A stroll at twilight along the harbor front. Looked out for our ship. Worked out a terrific appetite. Looked for Macke on the quay of the Vieux Port. Finally found him. There he was with his baby face, eating and drinking like a young prince. Didn’t see us. We crouched down behind the hedge, so that he could only see our heads.
Now he sees us–saw us, blushed slightly, looked quickly away, as though he had seen nothing. Then he greeted us gaily. He is bubbling over Marseille and environs. He has even been to a bullfight. Almost made him sick."
