That’s due to the outline of the plot. The street on the left was already curved. Every architect was struggling with the triangular form. Eventually Fritz Höger found a clever solution to combine the triangle with the next plot by bridging the Fischertwiete and maximizing the office space of the entire building.,10.00351&z=18.00&y=1937&o=0&r=-85&t=60

The photo itself became an icon; even more famous than the Chilehaus itself b/c it was used for city marketing since the 1930s. Today this area is a UNESCO world heritage site.
