Going Dental8 days ago, i awoke with a toothache ... as it was a saturday, i thought i'd somehow make it until monday, when the dental walk-in i usually go to, would be open again.
it was hard. taking more of my pain med which i take for chronic pain, didn''t help any with the tooth, only after mixing some other meds i had at home, i had a little success in reducing the pain. i knew the tooth was dying well, monday come and i spend my first couple hours staring at the sign picturede below (it says: drop card in here, enter only when called) only to find myself in the hands of a doctor who thinks its a good idea to put some soothing thingy in my tooth and tell me it was supposed to get better now, if not i should come again. i waited until thursday, things had gotten only worse and i was also out of meds i could mix to reduce the pain. so, thursday come and i spend more hours watching that sign ... now it's time for the root canal treatment. but hey, my memories that: a) the tooth is left open b)antibiotics are to be involved must sopmehow be false, because the doc does close the tooth with a temporary filling, doesn't prescribe antibiotics or painkillers - no, the guy PROMISES the pain will stop and my sufferings are over. bloody crap. that night i had the worst pains so far. when i returned the next day to watch the sign for a third time this week, i ended up seeing the same doc, as the day before: so now he agrees, he SHOULD have precribed antibiotics; but pull the nasty tooth - no. all he "can do" is "treat" my hurting gums, after that i leave the walk-in with more pain than i came with. also the nice doc had me buy an irrigation ... which led to a real shock the next morning. (i have to note: after taking the first antibiotic pill the pain went down for a short period of time) after a terrible night, i awoke early saturday morning, now having suffered pains for a week, and unlike the rest of the week, the toothache was already pretty present. so what do i do. i flush with the irrigation stuff only to find out that this act only irritated everything ... so after an hour of max pain it was clear that i would visit the emergency walk-in (which is open on sat. mornings i had found out in the meantime).
now my tooth is open with only a little cotton wool closing it. and although during the rest of yesterday i did have several waves of pain it really felt better than the days before.
it's hard to be optimistic, when remembering the long and tragic story of tooth #46, which had to go after an ordeal of MONTHS of an open tooth, canal treatment, blah, blah ... but i try to believe everything is getting better now. update (5 days later): after another weekend in hell (saturday night the heavy pain set in again) i showed up again on monday, when i got another TOX in to kill the nerve - since monday things have turned better, since i was prescribed a med that actually works! too bad nobody thought of that before ;( |
