in a way they are: some remaining have been wired and equipped with LEDs and exhibited

I ate a lot of the fresh ones 2002, I have heard of someone eating a one year old in 2003, but not since - theoretically if stored properly it might still be edible.
most left-overs that were kept for years, were intruded by little worms though ;(

there is the idea of a life-sized gingerbread-robot ;)
seems more likely the electrified ginger-b-bots would make it to america though
