It is indeed a technique? I really do like those shots. It is, somehow, a very interesting way to put something into the center of interest by keeping a lot of fuzz out of the picture. I didn't know there is a name for these kind of pictures.

Two definitions of the term "cornershot" come to my mind:

1) a shot where the object is somehow put into the corner of the picture or the content in the corners of the picture is at least as important as the content in the center.

2) a shot of corners that normally avoid being recognized at all.
