Ooops... A340-400 first class entertainment system crash. Was anyone saying that Linux is stable?

well the thing most people don't tell you (but I do I'm an honest advocate even if I'm a fanatic) is that when we say GNU/Linux doesn't crash we mean the operating system.

it hardly ever crashes, it really is stable, most of the server software is very stable too, and alot of whats in between.

desktop environments are not as stable as the OS itself but tend to be more stable than your typical M$ desktop, the desktop software is another story, mozilla and open office have a bad record for instance.

as for this entertainment system this really depends on the details, which system are they running, is the multimedia portion really FOSS or is it just some proprietary thing built on top of GNU/Linux, I bet you the operating system didn't crash (not that it makes much difference for the person watching a movie).

Alaa...
Thanks for your comment.
My M$ desktop is stable indeed :) No worries
My Linux desktop (at home) is stable as well
Talking about a system like the entertainment system, is something that should take the load of all the users on the plane. Being a FOSS is totally out of the question, cause a reputable company as of the airline above will never jeopardise it's reputation for some pennies in the bucket.
Personally, no one should... That's why many successful businesses around the world still use MS, and will continue doing so more into the future. Being too blinded to see that is a problem.

I had the same experience on an Aer Lingus flight some time ago:
