I'm not really getting this HDR hype but some examples are just so convincing... This photo makes me believe it's a valuable, fun technique. I'm thinking about trying it myself.

I take a HDR shot from day to day, not really often. But this looks great with HDR and tonemapping.

I use OpenSource software for all my things ;)
