eli degibri trio @ louis 649, 9/21/08 - 01 . the legendary east village jazz club celebrated its 4th birthday with a week of rsvp open bars sponsored by some pretty fancy booze mfr's, culminating in a completely unexpected live show by eli degibri, the only artist to record at louis (a tasty treat too i might add - link at the bottom). the bar had been one of the best no-cover places to hear really great jazz until the hood gentrified a bit too much and the neighbors started calling the cops - nightly (for jazz, mind you. this is not the sort of stuff you wear earplugs to). enough of this harassment and the club finally decided to drop the live music. so was quite a surprise to get a last-minute email blast announcing the show. and it was as good and better than i hoped. here a couple pics from the night...
